McKEE OUT-OF-SCHOOL PROGRAM
Activites & Programs
The daily program of an After School Care Centre reflects the developmental needs of children and is concerned with all aspects of the child's life including his/her family and community relationships.  A large part of our program follows a free play base.  We try to create an environment that will challenge and stimulate each child.  While After School Care Programs provide group care for children, each child's right to privacy, individualized attention and specialized activities is respected.  After School Care Programs also have a particular responsibility to work co-operatively with schools to meet the developmental needs of children.

We use children's' ideas and current interests to enhance our program.  A pre-planned schedule of activities is provided each day to give the children a sense of routine.   Children are given the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities.  The schedule remains flexible, allowing for change if the need arises.  We also have regular scheduled activities such as gym, outdoor activities, skating, interest clubs and various special events.

The program runs full time in the summer months offering an active program with many field trips and activities planned.

Field Trip / Excursions
McKee After School Program endeavors to create a safe environment for our children.  Our programming includes Enhanced Programming, which goes beyond our standard daily programming and includes lessons, guests and day field trips mainly for days such as Program Development Days, Spring Break, summer holidays, etc.  It is important to make outings as safe as possible while allowing children to learn from their experiences in a variety of settings.

Nutrition
Each child must bring his/her own lunch.  Healthy and nutritious snacks are strongly encouraged in your child/children's lunches.  The Centre ensures that all children receive nutritious snacks that take into account health issues while respecting family requests and preferences.  Canada Food Guide is used in the planning of our snacks.  Lunch is around 11:45 a.m.  Morning snacks are from 8:10 to 8:25 a.m. and afternoons snacks are from 3:30 to 3:50 p.m.  Morning snack is just that - snack.  Please ensure that your child also has a nutritious breakfast.
